N.W. (Bud) Purves

Mr. Purves has a keen commitment to community and is a member of several prominent Boards in Toronto involved with community building, the environment and business and innovation.
In addition to his role as Chair of the Toronto Community Housing Board of Directors, Mr. Purves chairs the Board of Trustees for the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), where he has served for nine years. Mr. Purves has a proven track record as a CEO at York University Development Corporation and prior to that, as President of the CN Tower and a Senior Executive at Trizec Hahn Corporation.

He has also participated in the property development of University Health Networks, Project MaRS, and the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts. He is involved in preserving Ontario's natural environment as a Board member of the Muskoka Heritage Foundation.

Over his career, Mr. Purves has developed many successful projects across North America including specialized urban community projects in Denver, Colorado and Syracuse, New York. In Canada, he has created unique housing and mixed-use commercial projects in Calgary, Toronto and Montreal. While at CN Real Estate, he led the zoning and municipal arrangements process for the redevelopment of the Toronto Railway Lands.

In his current capacity as President of York University Development Corporation, he has worked closely with all levels of government and many stakeholder groups to complete a new municipal Secondary Plan for York University, the University's own Master Plan, the residential Village at York, and the design and construction of the New Archives of Ontario building and York Research Tower. He has also led multi-faceted teams to successful outcomes in bringing both the Pan Am/Parapan Games Stadium and the Toronto Subway to York, both long-term projects which will be realized over the next several years.

Bud has a keen interest in sports, is an active distance runner and has as a life-long interest in aviation.
