What is HERstory?

HERstory is an empowerment and leadership conference for young women ages 13 to 16. This unique, one-day conference is designed to assist young women in developing a healthy mind, body and soul. 2010 is HERstory's fifth year and the theme of the conference is the power in me. The theme is about overcoming adversity. It is meant to highlight defining moments in life where we decide to either allow ourselves to be defeated by adversity or use it as a launch pad to get to the life we want to live.

Through a series of interactive workshops facilitators provide direction and resources to the young women, empowering them to address and overcome barriers they face in their daily lives and in the communities where they live. The goal is to equip young women with supports and networks they can use to achieve their goals.

Toronto Community Housing is committed to creating opportunities for young people to reach their potential. When we invest in girls we nurture self-respect and self-esteem. Educated girls become educated women who are better able to support their families, make healthy choices, and reinvest in their schools, homes and communities.
